Why we write about colouring at all

Colouring is not a subject that obviously needs articles written about it. These exist because the same few questions kept arriving, and they are mostly not about technique.

The common one is why a page that looked appealing turns out to be unrelaxing — usually because the detail is too fine for tired eyes at the end of a day, which is a design problem rather than a failing on the part of the person colouring. The rest are practical: how to print without wasting a cartridge, how to choose a palette when the reference image has already decided one for you, and how to colour on a tablet when printing is not an option.

The seasonal articles take a scene apart and ask what makes it worth an hour — why a snowy lakeside asks for restraint and gives back calm, why a summer book mixing beaches and city streets keeps people going longer than a single mood would.

All of it is free and none of it requires buying anything. Where one of the Cozy books is the obvious illustration of a point, it is mentioned at the end of the article rather than threaded through it.
